Field Trip in honor of  Women's History Month for A-MAN, Inc. Young Lady Achievers!


Dr. Bettye Davis Walker, A-MAN, Inc. STEM International Science Center President, organized a Field Trip for the Young Lady Achievers to view the highly acclaimed Movie, "Hidden Figures."


Dr. Walker presented each of the students with a Microscope in a ceremony before they traveled to see the movie. Members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Alpha Gamma Omega Chapter, assisted with the presentations at the STEM Center co-founded by Dr. Walker and her Laser Scientist husband, Hildreth (Hal) Walker, Jr. The three(3) women who were written about in the movie are also members of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and many activities have been planned to showcase their contributions to NASA.


The AT&T Community department provided bus transportation and also lunch for the students. A panel discussion was held before the showing of the film and the young ladies were excited to see the film and realize the importance of STEM Education.

The audience of 600 enjoyed a true adventure into outer Space at Buren High
SchoolonWednesday February 27,2019. The Auditorium was transformed into a Space Vehicle and the Lights, Cameras and Action began! The outstanding MC was Andre du Toit, from Smile Radio Station 94 FM.The 3 students who attended the International Space Development Conference (ISDC) 2018 in Los Angeles stepped out of the Space Shuttle in their Astronaut outfits to present the follow up information on their VASIMR Engine Project. Prof Hal Walker gave an amazing insight on his Laser Ranging Experiment during the Apollo11 Moon Landing 50 Years ago. Dr. Bettye introduced NOMATHEMBA Kontyo, a former student she trained who worked on the Mars Rovers mission at JPL/NASA when she was 15 and now has her Masters in Geology. She also introduced Astronomer and physicist Moiya McTier from New York.The Deputy US Consul General and former Counsel General from South Africa to Los Angeles attended. VIP guests from Los Angeles, Washington, D.C, Detroit, Michigan ,New York and the UK were also in attendance. Brian Hagerty, IEEE brought greetings to the audience on SKYPE from Los Angeles.The Rotary clubs of Sea Point, Am Kap and Blouberg were also in attendance with DG Kruger and PDG Stassen. The Afrinique Foundation for Women and Youth were Sponsors and also The Croxton Cape pty Ltd. 
This was a show with the Sky not being the Limit and our Children are truly our future!

STEM Technology Center has been established to meet the expanding vision of Holman United Methodist Church (UMC) to serve the community and especially our youth.  Holman Church has partnered with A-MAN, Inc. STEM International Science Discovery and Learning Center to provide unique opportunities for elementary girls and boys to explore Science and Technology through STEM After-School Programs.​
