Today A-MAN is building the leaders and participants in science and technology for tomorrow. We share our legacy with you as we provide students with experiences that prepare them to attend higher academic institutions and begin fulfilling the nation's leadership and technological needs.
A-MAN History 1986-2005
- 2002 - Tom Bradley Tenth Annual Recognition Dinner speaker, Mr. Carl Ballton, President, Union Bank of California Foundation; A-MAN, Inc. partners with Rotary International Club in Claremont, South Africa to sponsor computer lab at Fezekeh Secondary School in Cape Town Township. A-MAN, Inc. partners with PTD to sponsor two (2) astronomy club at Ysterplaat Primary and Fezekeh Secondary School.
- 2001 - The establishment of a satellite Center at Holman UMC. Permission to Dream (PTD) partners with A-MAN, Inc., to establish astronomy clubs. A-MAN Inc. partners with Rotary International Club in South Africa to sponsor computer lab.
- 2000 - Tom Bradley Eighth Annual Recognition Dinner - Astronaut Bernard A. Harris, Jr., M.D., A-MAN National Spokesperson, Keynote Speaker. Dollars for Scholars A-MAN National Chapter formed. Ten (10) South African STARS OF A-MAN hosted at the A-MAN ISD&L Center in Los Angeles for two weeks.
- 1999 - 7th Annual Recognition Dinner - Ben Carson, M.D., Keynote Speaker; Co-founders expand A-MAN/STARS of South Africa to Cape Town. The Smithsonian/Jerome and Dorothy Lemelson Center partners with A-MAN.
- 1998 - 6th Annual Recognition Dinner - Ben Carson, M.D., Keynote Speaker; Established Pilot Project A-MAN/STARS of South Africa at Uthumbo Primary School in Mamelodi, South Africa. Also, A-MAN expands its Center to 7,500 sq. ft. facility.
- 1997 - 5th Annual Recognition Dinner - Ambassador Franklin Sonn, Keynotes. A-MAN Study Tour to South Africa: 12 students and 18 parents meet with President Nelson Mandela.
- 1996 - Science Discovery and Learning Center expands to 2,500 sq. ft. site.
- 1995 - Fourth Annual Recognition Dinner - Astronaut Bernard A. Harris, Jr., M.D., Keynotes. UCLA-DOE Structural Biology Molecular Medicine Laboratory forms an alliance with A-MAN.
- 1994 - Third annual Recognition Dinner - Hal Walker Jr. Keynotes. The ISD&L Center Ribbon Cutting and opening - 1500 square foot facility
- 1993 - 2nd Annual Recognition Dinner - Dr. Reed V. Tuckson, Keynotes
- 1992 - First Annual Recognition Dinner - Astronaut Bernard A. Harris, Jr., M.D., Keynotes
- 1991 - The incorporation of A-MAN, Inc. as a 501 (c) (3) non-profit.
- 1990 - Research expanded at Walton Middle School, Compton, CA.
- 1989 - Final culmination program: Pilot research project successfully completed.
- 1988 - Culmination program: first stage of research conducted using Science as a motivational tool.
- 1987 - Selected pilot research project site: Ralph Bunche Elementary School, Carson, CA. K-6th grade, Project Director: Dr. Bettye Davis Walker.
- 1986 - UCLA funds research to address early intervention for African American Males.
