Role models are men and women who are professionals with a college degree. They make up the Speakers' Bureau component of the A-MAN program. Monthly meetings are scheduled with the "PAR" team (Parent, Achiever & Role model).
Parent Ms. Marsha Turner, A-MAN Student Leslie Holloway, and Role Model Mr. Ulysses Griggs attend the 2002 A-MAN 10th Annual Recognition Dinner Program.Role models speak at the monthly meetings held at the International Science Discovery and Learning Center and lead discussions as well as direct a question and answer period. Occasionally, weekend workshops are held for the students and conducted by various role models. It is imperative for them to be positive models for the achievers and they demonstrate how to dress for success.
All role models must be recommended and interviewed before a good match is made with the student achiever. After meeting with the parent and the director of programs at the International Science Discovery and Learning Center, the role model meets the achiever. The role model, parent and achiever spend time interacting and getting to know one another. Finally, the role model exchanges phone numbers with the parent and achiever and the bonding begins to take place. The trio meet at the Center in order to maintain contact and the role model attends meetings, field trips and study tours, etc. with the achiever.
The role model signs a minimum one-year agreement of commitment. One role model was recently honored for being active for ten (10) consecutive years.
