The Role of Parents

[IMAGE] The parent component is very crucial to the success of the program. They must sign a contract to participate in the program in order for their child to be involved.

The parent component is very crucial to the success of the program. They must sign a contract to participate in the program in order for their child to be involved. They must also sign a form stating their availability to volunteer at the International Science Discovery and Learning Center (ISD&L).

If they are a working parent, they can volunteer on the weekend for special activities or events. It is important for the achiever to see the parent is involved in the program.

The "PAR" team works well because of the involvement of the parent with the child. "PAR" represents the Parent, Achiever and Role Model.

The A-MAN high tech library provides a computer for every parent to take home. This gives the parent and child the opportunity to interact and learn together.

There is a parent phone tree to provide messages regarding meetings, activities, news, etc. to the parents. The phone tree gives each parent a chance to get to know one another and become a support for each other. In preparation for the annual Recognition dinner that recognizes the achievers and their role models, each parent is a member of one of the many committees necessary to make the annual fund raiser a success. A chairperson is selected to lead each committee and ads are solicited by the parents and the role models.
