A-MAN History 1986 until Today

  1. 2009 - Tom Bradley 18th Annual Recognition Dinner Speaker - Patricia Kirk-McAlpine, Executive Director, DCMA Space & Missile Systems Division U.S. Dept of Defense; Southern California Edison hosts Breakfast for A-MAN and invites Corporations & Foundations. Northrop Grumman supports A-MAN Capitol Campaign. Brotherhood Crusade partners with A-MAN to provide science & technology for the Los Angeles city GRID Project Community. Recycling Organization honors A-MAN Co-founders. A-MAN Saturday Science Academy hosts Industry Day at the A-MAN Center with Aerospace Corporations. Supplemental Educational Services provided in the After School Program. Astronomy Program aired on Cape Town TV with A-MAN co-founder Hal Walker demonstrating the Eclipse.
  2. 2008 - Tom Bradley 17th Annual Recognition Dinner Speaker - Celebrating "YET", Youth, Education and Technology; Today A-MAN is building the leaders and participants in science and technology for tomorrow. We share our legacy with you as we provide students with experiences that prepare them to attend higher academic institutions and begin fulfilling the nation's leadership, technological and economic needs.

  4. 2006 - Tom Bradley 15th Annual Recognition Dinner Keynote Speaker - Paul C. Hudson, Chief Executive Officer, Broadway Federal Bank; Seventh computer lab sponsored in Cape Town Township at Woodbridge Primary School. Bill Gates, Sr., Co-Chair, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation meets with A-MAN, Inc. Co-Founders.
  5. 2005 - Tom Bradley 14th Annual Recognition Dinner Keynote Speaker - Samuel C. Hamilton, International President, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc; Sixth computer lab sponsored in Cape Town Township at Marconi Beam Primary School. Boeing Company contributed $50,000 to the A-MAN, Inc. Capitol Campaign Expansion Project to increase the Center's capacity to serve young people in the L.A. County Communities.
  6. 2004 - Tom Bradley 12th Annual Recognition Dinner Keynote Speaker - Dr. James Lyons, President of Cal State Dominquez Hills College; A-MAN Formed the Capitol Campaign Committee to establish a permanent site for the A-MAN, Inc. ISD&L Center. "Shoe Boxes for Africa" from Alpha Gamma Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. Adopted the Itsulimela Township School and provided school supplies for the fire victims. Holman members donated school supplies for township students. Fifth Computer Lab sponsored in Cape Town Township at Van Buren High.
  7. 2003 - Tom Bradley 11th Annual Recognition Dinner Keynote Speaker - Astronaut Bernard A. Harris, Jr., M.D., A-MAN, Inc. National Spokesperson; A fourth Computer Lab sponsored in Cape Town Township at Tygerberg Childrens' Hospital.
  8. 2002 - Tom Bradley 10th Annual Recognition Dinner Keynote Speaker - Mr. Carl Ballton, President, Union Bank of California Foundation; A-MAN, Inc. partners with Rotary International Club in Claremont, South Africa to sponsor computer lab at Fezekeh Secondary School in Cape Town Township. A-MAN, Inc. partners with PTD to sponsor two (2) astronomy club at Ysterplaat Primary and Fezekeh Secondary School.
  9. 2001 - The establishment of a satellite Center at Holman UMC. Permission to Dream (PTD) partners with A-MAN, Inc., to establish astronomy clubs; A-MAN Inc. partners with Rotary International Club in South Africa to sponsor computer lab.
  10. 2000 - Tom Bradley Eighth Annual Recognition Dinner Keynote Speaker - Astronaut Bernard A. Harris, Jr., M.D., A-MAN National Spokesperson; Dollars for Scholars A-MAN National Chapter formed. Ten (10) South African STARS OF A-MAN hosted at the A-MAN ISD&L Center in Los Angeles for two weeks.
  11. 1999 - 7th Annual Recognition Dinner Keynote Speaker - Ben Carson, M.D., Co-founders expand A-MAN/STARS of South Africa to Cape Town; The Smithsonian/Jerome and Dorothy Lemelson Center partners with A-MAN.
  12. 1998 - 6th Annual Recognition Dinner Keynote Speaker - Ben Carson, M.D., Established Pilot Project A-MAN/STARS of South Africa at Uthumbo Primary School in Mamelodi, South Africa; Also, A-MAN expands its Center to 7,500 sq. ft. facility.
  13. 1997 - 5th Annual Recognition Dinner Keynote Speaker - Ambassador Franklin Sonn, Keynotes; A-MAN Study Tour to South Africa: 12 students and 18 parents meet with President Nelson Mandela.
  14. 1996 - Science Discovery and Learning Center expands to 2,500 sq. ft. site.
  15. 1995 - Fourth Annual Recognition Dinner Keynote Speaker - Astronaut Bernard A. Harris, Jr., M.D.; UCLA-DOE Structural Biology Molecular Medicine Laboratory forms an alliance with A-MAN.
  16. 1994 - Third annual Recognition Dinner Keynote Speaker - Hal Walker Jr.; The ISD&L Center Ribbon Cutting and opening - 1500 square foot facility
  17. 1993 - 2nd Annual Recognition Dinner - Dr. Reed V. Tuckson, Keynotes
  18. 1992 - First Annual Recognition Dinner - Astronaut Bernard A. Harris, Jr., M.D., Keynotes
  19. 1991 - The incorporation of A-MAN, Inc. as a 501 (c) (3) non-profit.
  20. 1990 - Research expanded at Walton Middle School, Compton, CA.
  21. 1989 - Final culmination program: Pilot research project successfully completed.
  22. 1988 - Culmination program: first stage of research conducted using Science as a motivational tool.
  23. 1987 - Selected pilot research project site: Ralph Bunche Elementary School, Carson, CA. K-6th grade, Project Director: Dr. Bettye Davis Walker.
  24. 1986 - UCLA funds research to address early intervention for African American Males.
